| Thank you for visiting my website! As one of the
Dine', a Navajo Indian, I am proud to share some of my culture and life
with you. Native Americans have a spirituality and connection with the land that is difficult to find in other cultures. You can be a part of this connection through the natural Jewelry that I design and create. Each piece is designed with specific stones in mind to complement not only your appearance, but to encourage the best in you as a person. I pray that you will find each one a healthy and positive influence as you wear it and show it off to your friends! |

| My family is very important to me. Growing up in
a small house with
lots of kids you learn to get along with each other. I am the youngest of nineteen children from Canyon DeChelly in Chinle, Arizona. Growing up on the Navajo Indian Reservation was a far different life than most people get to live here in the USA. My sisters and I design and create Navajo jewelry. It is the art of our culture that you can wear everyday. We design using the materials and methods of our ancestors and the style and fashion of today. You will notice that our jewelry is quite different. A lot of time and thought goes into the design and production of what we create. |
|
| Like any painter or sculptor, each piece speaks to us and has
to “feel” right before we’re satisfied with it. We know that if it
feels right and speaks to us - it will feel right and speak to you as
well. Find a piece you like. Hold it. Run your hands over the stones. Feel the coolness against your skin. When you find one that feels right to you, it will become part of you as it brings confidence, peace and joy into your life. |

| We certify each piece we create as authentic and
made by the Teller
family. My own personal creations are tag certified as authentic Navajo
ArtWear designed by Safira. If you happen to be in Canyon DeChelly, eat at Thunderbird Lodge or take a tour of the Canyon and say “hello” to my family for me! |

More of my story |
|
|
Ya at eeh! That is Navajo for “Hello.” You pronounce it like
YahTay with a lot of emphasis on the “T”.
My Name is Safira Scott and it is true - my poor mother had nineteen of
us children. We grew up living at the bottom of Canyon DeChelly which
is now a national monument. Hiking, climbing canyon walls and riding
wild horses was all a normal part of growing up. For as long as I can remember my mother would be sitting in the living room in front of her loom, combing wool, spinning wool yarn and weaving her rugs. Only my oldest sister still weaves today. Her rugs wholesale in the $2000 range and are very much in demand when they are available. |
| One of my brothers is an exceptional cradle board maker. He
is able to shape and fashion both the cedar and the leather bindings
into beautiful pieces that were once used on an everyday basis by my
people - but now are considered artwork. Most of my sisters and I gravitated toward creating jewelry. One of my nieces has a lapidary shop and that makes it possible for us to get materials that are hard for most artists to find. I have spent thousands of evenings sitting around my mom’s kitchen table laughing, joking and making fine jewelry with my sisters. |
|
| Now I live in the Chicago area and, though I
still design and create authentic Navajo ArtWear, I miss the land and
my family. These pieces of art that I make help keep me connected to my
people. Selling my own art and my family’s work at Museums, Powwows, Art shows and through Private Showings is my way of sharing my culture, helping my family, getting to know some great people and making a living along the way. Thank you for being a part of my journey. May you walk in beauty... Sapphira Scott |
